Famous People and “Untimely” Deaths

The fear of the Lord is hatred of evil. Pride and arrogance and the way of evil and perverted speech I hate.  Prov 8:13

The nugget — “If we fear (revere) God we will hate evil… ” This scripture further explains that pride and arrogance is directly linked to “the way of evil,  and “perverted” speech results in that which God hates!  Perverted, in this instance, means “a misuse or twisting of  TRUTH!”

2 Peter 3:16-18 also addresses this “twisted thinking” …  ” As also in all his letters, speaking in them of these things, in which are some things hard to understand, which the untaught and unstable distort, as they do also the rest of the Scriptures, to their own destruction. You therefore, beloved, knowing this beforehand, be on your guard lest, being carried away by the error of unprincipled men, you fall from your own steadfastness.”

“Unprincipled men” covers a broad spectrum … But, be sure, pride and arrogance are part and parcel of their false representation of scripture.

Of late, there has been a deluge of  the world’s “famous”  most often, unsaved/hedonistic musicians/actors/entertainers deaths. Although extremely talented, they chose to follow the way of the world … Sad, but true, as witnessed by Facebook posts and more,  even “Christians” adored and followed them!

This tendency is inherent in some belief systems.  Many in today’s “Christian” culture have believed a falsehood about “the Kingdom of God” and the concept of taking “dominion” over every sphere (mountain) of society — including the secular music/entertainment mountain. Rather than “loving the sinner and hating the sin,” because of twisted theology, they often end up loving both!   Thus, the “Christian’s”  idol worship and deep sorrow over the celebrity’s “untimely” death.  When we embrace the world’s fame, fortune and worldliness, we may be risking our very souls. That’s not to say, if we have opportunity,  that we don’t share the Gospel with with them, but most often the icon cannot release fame and fortune’s death grip.

Nothing is outside of God’s “timing” or His sovereignty — even death!  I am reminded of yet another TRUTH in scripture …

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

Caveat:   This article is not to imply that all the secular musicians/actors/entertainers are unbelievers, or that Christians should not attend decent concerts, movies, etc.  But, we should be wise in our choices of entertainment, and surely not idolize and memorialize those who have rejected Christ when they were alive. To put RIP on the posting of their demise is, unfortunately, an oxymoron!

“For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul.”      Matthew  8:6
